Fathers ride free at Railway Museum

The Northwest Railway Museum invites children to treat their dads to a special train ride aboard the Snoqualmie Valley Railroad on Father’s Day weekend, June 20 and 21.

Fathers ride free all weekend when accompanied by their paying children of any age.

Trains depart every 75 minutes beginning at 11:01 a.m. from the Snoqualmie Depot, 38625 S.E. King Street and at 11:26 a.m. from the North Bend Depot, 205 McClellan Street.

Roundtrip fares are $7 for children ages 2 to 12, $10 for children ages 13 to 61, and $9 for ‘children’ ages 62 and up.

The museum’s collection of railway artifacts and equipment includes over 70 examples of locomotives, passenger and freight cars, and railway equipment.

The Snoqualmie depot, exhibits and Depot Bookstore are open to the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Adopt a cat in June with no fee

June is Adopt-a-Cat month, and the Humane Society is waiving its adoption fee for adult cats through June 30 for anyone who donates cat food to the group’s food bank, which has no cat food left.

“Right now we only have one week of food left, and we feed more than 1,200 animals a month,” said Seattle Humane Society spokeswoman Amber Yoo.

The food bank supports mostly elderly people who would otherwise have to choose between self care and pet care.

Kitten season is in full swing, which means more cats need homes, and that Seattle Humane’s adult cats have to wait longer to be adopted, she said.

Normal adoption fees range from $50 to $150 depending on the cat’s needs. The fees include spaying or neutering, microchipping, vaccinations, intestinal de-worming (if necessary) and a voucher for a complimentary exam by a King County veterinarian.
