King County OKs Valley flood pads
King County farmers now have new ways of protecting their livelihoods when floodwaters rise.
The King County Council recently approved rules allowing farmers to build raised “farm pads,” where supplies and livestock can be placed during high flows.
Farmers will also be allowed to build agricultural buildings in the floodways.
The county’s decision closely followed recommendations in the Snoqualmie Flood Farm Task Force report, which was submitted to the council last winter.
The report is available online at http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/lands/agriculture/farm-flood-task-force-report.htm.
