SNOQUALMIE – Candidates running for office in Snoqualmie will have a chance to make their views known this fall at a public forum sponsored by the Snoqualmie Valley Record and the Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 7-9 p.m. in the Mount Si High School commons, 8651 Meadowbrook Way S.E.

Through a debate format, those candidates running in contested positions for Snoqualmie City Council, mayor and the Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors will answer questions posed by moderator and Valley Record publisher Jim McKiernan. Citizens and chamber of commerce members can send questions they would like addressed to the Valley Record to possibly be used in the debate.

Those set to participate include Tony Yanez and Robert Jeans, who are competing for position No. 1 on the City Council; Gil Tumey and Bryan Holloway, who are competing for position No. 3 on the City Council; Matt Larson, James Harrelson and Michael Lewandowski for mayor (though only two mayoral candidates will actually participate given that the primary election on Sept. 20 will eliminate one of the three); and Kim Horn and Carolyn Simpson, who are running for Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors district No. 3.

Each candidate will have one minute to introduce themselves before the forum begins and two minutes to make a closing statement at the end of the event. Candidates running in unopposed positions will also get to speak at the end if there is time. All candidates will have the opportunity to set up a table at the event to distribute campaign materials and answer questions.

The League of Women Voters will be also present to register Snoqualmie residents to vote.
