State Fire Marshal Michael Matlick has announced that 15 firefighters are preparing to graduate from the Washington State Patrol Fire Training Academy’s Firefighter 1 program on Sunday, Oct 26. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at Mount Si High School.
The Fire Training Academy Recruit School program is a 10-week, 180-hour course that meets national standards for certification. Graduating firefighters learn basic fire service principles through classroom instruction, written and practical examinations, and rigorous hands-on live fire training.
Among the 15 graduates, Eastside Fire and Rescue has three firefighters. The rest of the graduates are from East Jefferson Fire Rescue, Kittitas Valley Fire Rescue, Redmond Fire Department and South Pierce Fire and Rescue.
