Fire Districts 10, 38, offer resources on fire authority ballot measure, plan public meeting Oct. 20 in North Bend

King County Fire Districts 10 and 38 have created two resources to help property owners learn more about the fire authority proposition that will be on their November general election ballots.

King County Fire Districts 10 and 38 have created two resources to help property owners learn more about the fire authority proposition that will be on their November general election ballots.

The agencies are asking voters to approve the Eastside Regional Fire Authority Proposition 1, combining the districts into one fire authority to reduce costs, maintain emergency service levels, and improve efficiencies for taxpayers long-term.

The first resource is an animated video that explains the proposal, detailing the challenges facing both fire districts to maintain service levels, what a fire authority is and how it would be funded.

The second resource is a calculator so property owners can compare emergency service costs from 2016 to 2017 under the proposed fire authority. The amounts for 2017 are approximate as the most current data available for the calculator is based on 2016 assessed property values.

Both resources can be found on the fire districts’ web pages at www.eastsidefire-rescue.org.

If the ballot measure is approved by voters in November, property owners in Fire District 10 would see an estimated tax decrease of 23 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. Fire District 10 serves May Valley, Tiger Mountain, Mirrormont, Preston, and the City of Carnation.

Fire District 38 covers the unincorporated areas around North Bend and Snoqualmie. Property owners would see an average tax increase of 20 cents per $1,000.

Fire Districts 10 and 38 are planning two meetings to answer questions about the ballot measure in late October:

• 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Station 78, 20720 S.E. May Valley Rd., Issaquah; and

• 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Station 87, 500 Maloney Grove Ave. S.E., North Bend.

Community members with questions can also contact Commissioner Mike Mitchell, who chairs the fire authority planning committee at (425) 999-2174 or mmitchell@esf-r.org.
