For “Charity Month” at DMW Martial Arts school on Snoqualmie Ridge, owners Dan Cartan and Marcia Paul invite neighbors to participate in a charity drive to benefit the local food bank. Mount Si Food Bank is an organization that assists the local community by providing food to families in need.

DMW is hosting its annual kickathon the week of November 15. The goal: 532,000 kicks to raise funds to donate to the area food bank. Students will perform kicks during their daily classes cumulating with a grand finale on Saturday, Nov. 20. DMW accepts charitable donations until the end of November.

“We are proud to help such a worthy cause that affects the lives of so many,” Dan Cartan said. “It is a great opportunity to teach your children about the importance of giving to others, and benefit others in need. Please join us!”

DMW utilizes the physical skills they teach as a vehicle to work with children on strengthening their character. They provide students and families with monthly character curriculum that encourages good choices and interpersonal skills. For example, for November, the students will be focusing on harity. Everyone will therefore be focusing on understanding charity and fostering an attitude of giving and sharing with others.

“Charity does not refer to giving when it’s expected, but rather, giving as a habit beyond what is required of us and without expecting anything in return,” Cartan said.
