David Lynch fans memorialize him outside Twede’s Cafe

A memorial with gifts and notes began popping up shortly after Lynch died Jan. 15.

Shortly after “Twin Peaks” director and co-creator David Lynch died Jan. 15, fans started a memorial outside Twede’s Cafe in North Bend.

The memorial has grown to include dozens of flower bouquets, candles, snacks and photos of Lynch and “Twin Peaks” characters. There are several bottles of Coca-Cola and some cookies — a combo Lynch famously emjoyed. There are a few packs of cigarettes for Lynch, a longtime smoker who quit a couple of years ago after being diagnosed with emphysema.

Last, but certainly not least, there are notes written to Lynch chronicling the impact he had on fans and thanking him for his art.

“Your work opened my mind and allowed me to understand the power of art, the power of cinema,” one fan wrote. “Thank you so much for the lifetime of work. We will miss you dearly. Travel well.”

To see Lynch’s fan-made memorial, visit Twede’s Cafe at 137 W. North Bend Way.
