FALL CITY – Although there was no bomb in Fall City last week, a scare that evacuated several downtown businesses still ended with a bang when the King County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad detonated a suspicious briefcase that was left in the parking lot of a gas station on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 1.

King County Fire Protection District 27 Chief Chris Connor said the scare started at 9:07 a.m. when an employee of the Fall City Tesoro gas station at 4211 Preston-Fall City Road was approached by a man in the parking lot who commented on a briefcase that had been left in front of the building unattended.

The possibility of a bomb being in the case was jokingly brought up by the man, and the employee reported it to a volunteer firefighter who happened to be at the gas station. The volunteer firefighter later contacted the fire department.

District 27 firefighters secured a perimeter around the gas station and evacuated local businesses while a King County Sheriff’s Office bomb unit inspected the briefcase.
