On Friday, Aug. 23, the Boeing Classic golf tournament on Snoqualmie Ridge kicked off in high style with the ceremonial flyover of a Boeing 777 jet from Emirates Air. As golf fans headed to the ropes to watch Champions Tour athletes compete, it was also Kids' Day, with families introducing young players to the sport in a number of events.

On Friday, Aug. 23, the Boeing Classic golf tournament on Snoqualmie Ridge kicked off in high style with the ceremonial flyover of a Boeing 777 jet from Emirates Air.

As golf fans headed to the ropes to watch Champions Tour athletes compete, it was also Kids’ Day, with families introducing young players to the sport in a number of events.

Tournament action continues through this weekend, with the championship beginning Sunday, Aug. 25,  at 10 a.m. The tournament’s third annual Military Appreciation Day is Sunday. In an effort to have as many servicemen and women as possible take part in the celebration, active, retired and Reserve military as well as their dependents will receive free admission to the tournament.

Water boys Owen Huelsbeck, Brady Donegan, front, and Kramer Lewis, and Quinn Huelsbeck, back, say they have “the best job” at the Classic. They drive around, fill up water and ice, eat for free and enjoy all-access passes to meet Fred Couples, Tom Kite and several retired Seattle Seahawks football players. They hail from Tacoma and Seattle.

Young women involved in the Miss Washington USA Pageant, which goes on to Miss Universe, meet and greet at the Classic: Miss Columbia River Erica Rodarte; Miss Snohomish County Taylor DeLine; Miss Northwest Seattle Jaqueline Hudzon; Miss Puyallup Sabrina Salazar, Miss Puyallup; Miss Snoqualmie Canara Heinke.

Dena Wafia, cabin crew member for Emirates Air, lets a young Kids Day participant try on her hat. “They do that on the airplane all the time,” said Wafia, who is based out of Dubai, UAE. “Kids add a different element. They love it.”

Visiting the Boeing Classic, Valley residents Andrea McCabe, Bob Pajer bring Hui Yu Lee, a former Snoqualmie exchange student from Korea, now a college student, back for a return visit.
