The Association of Washington Cities, an Olympia-based organization advocating on behalf of Washington’s 281 cities and towns, honored Sen. Mark Mullet of Issaquah with a City Champion award last week.

“For the second consecutive year, Sen. Mullet is recognized for his efforts to maintain critical city financial support from the state,” said Snoqualmie Mayor Matt Larson. Mullet was recognized Oct. 28 at the Sound Cities Association meeting.

Mullet, a former Issaquah City Councilmember, worked to secure previously reduced liquor tax revenues that support local public safety. He also advocated for the continuation of the Public Works Trust Fund, an account cities rely upon for infrastructure improvements, which was diverted to the state’s operating budget in recent years.

Rep. Tana Senn, Mercer Island, and Rep. Larry Springer, Kirkland, were also honored as City Champions. Sen. Joe Fain, Auburn, was recognized as a Transportation Champion for his efforts to enact the state’s transportation package.
