June is Adopt-a-Cat month, and the Seattle Humane Society is waiving its adoption fee for adult cats through June 30 for anyone who donates cat food to the group’s food bank, which has no cat food left.
“Right now we only have one week of food left, and we feed more than 1,200 animals a month,” said Seattle Humane Society spokeswoman Amber Yoo.
The food bank supports mostly elderly people who would otherwise have to choose between self care and pet care.
Kitten season is in full swing, which means more cats need homes, and that Seattle Humane’s adult cats have to wait longer to be adopted, she said.
Normal adoption fees range from $50 to $150 depending on the cat’s needs. The fees include spaying or neutering, microchipping, vaccinations, intestinal de-worming (if necessary) and a voucher for a complimentary exam by a King County veterinarian.
