The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Washington State Geocaching Association have announced that the State Parks Centennial GeoTour will officially end June 6. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Washington State Geocaching Association have announced that the State Parks Centennial GeoTour will officially end June 6. However, the caches will remain active through Sept. 30, and geocaching enthusiasts will have until Oct. 10 to submit passports for prize coins.

“The State Parks GeoTour has succeeded beyond all expectations over the past three years,” said Abby Wolfe, President Emeritus of the Washington State Geocaching Association (WSGA).

The tour was created in June 2013 as part of the State Parks’ 100th anniversary celebration. It featured more than 100 geocaches hidden at points of interest in 102 state parks across the state.

On June 6, the GeoTour web page (http://j.mp/1M0R8FK) will no longer be active. Geocachers will still be able to view all the caches at http://j.mp/1RyI9Zp. In addition, the passport, guidelines and map are viewable and downloadable at on the Washington State Parks Centennial GeoTour page: http://parks.state.wa.us/124/Centennial-GeoTour.

After Sept. 30, some caches may remain as regular caches at the discretion of individual parks and cache owners. But they won’t be part of a GeoTour, and passport submissions will no longer be accepted after the Oct. 10 cutoff. State Parks is looking into offering new geoadventures in the future.
