The Snoqualmie Valley Community Network has announced three upcoming suicide prevention workshops.
When people direct violence at themselves with the intent to end their lives and they die as a result, that is suicide, a leading cause of death in the United States. In 2013, suicide was the second leading cause of death among people ages 15 to 24 and among people ages 25 to 34, and the fourth leading cause among people 35 to 54, eighth in the 55 to 64 age group, 17th in the 65 or older group, and 10th leading cause of death across all ages, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Knowledge is power in suicide prevention. The Snoqualmie Valley Community Network is partnering with UW Medicine, Harborview Medical Center, the Snoqualmie YMCA, Friends of Youth, and Encompass to host these prevention workshops:
Firearms in Suicide, a deeper look at a growing crisis, noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Snoqualmie Valley YMCA, 35018 S.E. Ridge St., Snoqualmie;
Walking into Hope, Understanding the suicidal youth, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Duvall Library, 15508 N.E. Main St., Duvall; and
Walking into Hope, Understanding the suicidal youth, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16 at North Bend Library, 115 E. 4th St., North Bend.
