• The city of Snoqualmie has not done enough for its all-volunteer fire department, according to several firefighters who demanded answers from the city council Dec. 12. The volunteers wanted to know why a paid firefighter wasn’t included in the 1984 budget and why the city doesn’t allocate any tax money toward the department.
• Champagne flowed and smiles were impossible to contain Thursday night as the Hospital District 4 board unanimously agreed to lease Snoqualmie Valley Hospital. The Bellevue-based Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace Health and Hospital Services now get a chance to turn around the fortunes of the 28-bed public hospital.
• Voters in Snoqualmie Valley School District 410 will be asked to approve three separate school levies Feb. 7, which would provide the schools with $2.215 million to be collected over two years. The school board agreed Thursday to follow the recommendation of its budget and levy committee to place three separate measures before voters. On the ballot will be a maintenance and operations levy, a building fund levy and a transportation levy.

Thursday, Dec. 25, 1958
• Thirty-nine families, whose members include 116 children, were ensured a merrier Christmas than they believed possible through the untiring efforts of the Snoqualmie Valley Christmas Club. Volunteer workers packed the last article of clothing, loaded the last basket and made the rounds to 39 homes on Sunday, distributing articles donated by generous Valley folks and other things bought with cash donations from other equally warm-hearted citizens.
• A giant-sized sweet tooth is what the Snoqualmie firemen prepared when they filled 552 bags of candy for Santa to distribute last Saturday at the fire hall. Five hundred and eight of them were claimed by that many kiddies, the remainder donated to the S.V. Christmas club as a bit of extra sweetening for their Christmas baskets.

Thursday, Dec. 21, 1933
• The furious gale Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of C.J. Aschennbrenner, 46, Portland salesman, at the summit of Snoqualmie Pass, as he was driving down from Seattle to Wenatchee. A tree four feet in diameter crashed down upon his car near Camp Joy, flattening it.
• Thursday, the upper Valley was in truth “sufficient unto itself” when the water covered all detours which had been made necessary by the wrecking of the bridge above the Falls last week. Communication with Seattle by motor vehicle was cut off. The Washington Motor Coach, as well as the North Bend Stage Line, continued to give the best service possible by having the passengers walk across the NP Railway bridge from Tent Town to Snoqualmie, where a stage was on hand and continued over the pass.
