The following stories happened this week, 25 and 50 years ago, as reported in the Snoqualmie Valley Record. From the Record’s archives:
April 25, 1991
• The Snoqualmie Valley School District is going to the courts to force local teachers back into the classroom, claiming that their participation in the statewide strike is against the law and a breach of contract. School employees walked out on April 18 and that evening the District 410 school board met in a special session to approve a pair of resolutions. The first declared that there was no work for employees in the bargaining unit represented by the Snoqualmie Education Association or for employees whose work schedule depends upon the student calendar. The second authorized the Perkins Coie law firm to bring suit against the SEA and anyone else acting in concert with the SEA on strike.
• Charges of ethics violations flew at last week’s Carnation City Council meeting, where council member Dan Acker claimed the group had violated the public selection process in rejecting Jean Steinbrecker as a planning commission candidate.
• This week’s is the last broadsheet issue of the Valley Record. Next week, the paper changes to a tabloid format.
