Artists, music at new Riverfest

Artists, music at new Riverfest

Dozens of up-and-coming Valley artists and vendors will share and show off their wares at the first-ever Riverfest in North Bend.

The event, which brings together everything from photography to crafts and jewelry, is 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12, behind the Log Cabin Bed, Breakfast and Gifts location at 41528 S.E. 131st St.

Riverfest is sponsored by Down to Earth Photography and the Log Cabin.

The event will bring together different artists, young and old, amateur and professional, who Valley residents may not have seen before, organizer Mary Miller said.

The local band Indigo Mood will perform, and food will be offered by GT Catering, formerly of Gordy’s restaurant.

Admission is free to both vendors and visitors. Sponsors are asking for a donation to the Mount Si Helping Hand Food Bank.

Miler encourages participants in the Snoqualmie Valley Relay For Life to stop by Riverfest after the Relay.

“There’s no better time to bring the community together,” she said. “When times are tough, it’s OK to celebrate.”

Firefighter challenge

planned near Truck Town

Hundreds of firefighters from across the country are expected in North Bend this weekend for the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge.

Dubbed the “toughest two minutes in sports,” the five-event obstacle course tests firefighters’ fitness levels and agility, while celebrating the excellence of these community heroes. Teams representing Washington include Tacoma Fire, Port of Seattle and Bellevue Fire.

The event is 9 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Terex Genie facility, 47020 S.E. 144th St., North Bend.

The competition requires that firefighters wear full bunker gear and a Scott Air-Pak SCBA while completing a rigorous course comprised of five events: a fivestory stair climb with a 45-pound hose, a hose hoist, forcible entry, a hose advance and victim rescue. Each event represents a job task specific to firefighting and aims to test each firefighter’s resilience and agility.

Also scheduled is the Kid’s Firefighter Combat Challenge. This event affords children ages 4 to 12 the opportunity to live out the dream every child has of being a firefighter, through a scaled down version of the FCC course.
