VP candidate

VP candidate

I am a female voter who has never missed an election since 1982. I truly feel that Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air. As a partner with John McCain, she can get the job done because she owes no favors in Washington, D.C., walks her talk, and isn’t afraid to tackle real issues. She is willing to risk being unpopular within her own party if that is what it takes to accomplish a goal. I think she’ll help deliver exactly what we need for real change and a real departure from business as usual. And, by the way, she has several more years of experience actually running government than Senator Obama.

Fundraiser success

The Mount Si Wildcats Fastbreak boys basketball club wishes to express our sincere thanks to all our volunteers and corporate sponsors for their recent support. They made our first annual charity golf tournament at Mount Si Golf Course a huge success.

We succeeded in raising over $10,000 to support the Mount Si High School boys basketball program. These proceeds will be used to fund travel expenses for the Varsity 2008-09 team to travel to San Diego for a Christmas tournament.

Tournament sponsors were Claffey Painting and The Sherwin Williams Paint Co. The dinner sponsor was Windsor Construction Company. Thank you to all of our prize hole sponsors, including the law offices of Jonathan Pearlstein, Patton Financial Mortgage Services/Steve Helm, Mount Si Mobile Home Park, Holliday Masonry, Key Trucking, Inc., the Cascade Real Estate Team, Twin Star Car Wash, Banner Balloon and the Fastbreak Club. Thanks to all the corporate sponsors of golf holes, including Univera-Experience Renewal, Frontier Saloon, Riley & Sons Inc., Drywall Distributors, Anderson-Tedrick, Automation Controls, Matheus Lumber, Double D Landscaping, Shinn Mechanical, Inc., Emerald City Smoothie, Mount Si Pub, Summit Real Estate Group and Canyons Restaurant.

And, special thanks to Mount Si Golf Course for their support of this event.

Tribal art

On behalf of the artists, Paddle and myself, I want to thank you for the coverage for the Paddle Native American Art Show. Many people came through, and a number of them said they’d read about it in the paper. There were tourists from Europe who’d never seen Native art before, and had been quite taken with the work. We consider the show a success. We appreciate your support!

Book friends

The Friends of the North Bend Library would like to extend our appreciation to everyone who donates used books, DVDs and CDs throughout the year, and to all of you who purchased books at our recent book sale. We are also grateful to those who assisted us with set-up.

The book sale was a big success and the money raised will fund North Bend Library improvements and enhancements as well as programs for children, teens and adults, all of which are free, open to the public and held at the North Bend Library.

If you missed our sale, or if you are always on the lookout for books at bargain prices, please keep in mind that we have gently used books, movies and 2008 magazines for sale year-round on shelves next to the North Bend Library’s wall of windows.

We invite members or anyone interested in becoming a member of our Friends of the North Bend Library group to join us at our monthly meetings, which are held at 10 a.m. the second Monday of each month in the meeting room of the North Bend Library.

Donations of books, DVDs, CDs and 2008 magazines may be brought to the North Bend Library throughout the year.

Thank you, again, for supporting the Friends of the North Bend Library.

Penny Humphrey, President
