Letter: Rep. Reichert’s door has always been open

I live in Congressman Dave Reichert’s district. I am a Democrat and a union member. Ten years ago I found myself nervously sitting in the lobby of the Congressman’s D.C. office. I was waiting my turn to meet with the Congressman about issues that pertain to my job and my livelihood.

The Congressman came in and welcomed our group. He sat down with us and genuinely listened to our concern.

In the 10 years since that first meeting, I have met regularly with Congressman Reichert and his staff to discuss issues. He has always responded with concern and results. Although we may not always agree 100 percent on the course of action, his door has always been open.

And, when we’ve needed his help most, he has made phone calls to assist us and also sponsored legislation that has helped employees in my profession access their retirement accounts more easily. Congressman Reichert’s willingness to listen to and work with his constituents who may not necessarily share his views on every issue is the mark of a true representative of the people.
