Letter: Reminding the community of the reason for Baby Kimball memorial

Three years ago, on Feb. 12 our community was devastated by the finding of baby Kimball (Doe, an infant found dead in a wooded area near the Kimball Creek Bridge in 2014).

Many people from all around came to put this sweet, innocent baby to rest and she is forever in their hearts. The area where she was found was filled with flowers, letters, stuffed animals, a cross and many handmade items.

Of course, it being outside in Washington State, many of these things were ruined. In March of last year, gifts were still flooding in. A resident of the Valley kindly built a small memorial hut to hold and protect them all.

Sadly, someone is vandalizing and ruining this special place people still go to remember baby Kimball. There was a note found with threats of this behavior continuing. Witnesses have seen a small dark pickup with a matching canopy, drive right up to the hut and push it over the embankment several times.

I, my family and the helpful owner of C&S Landscaping, Curtis Smith, have pulled it up and put it back together. I am writing this letter to reach out once again to our community to thank you all for your kindness, and possibly to this individual, who may not understand why this memorial stands.
