Hawks take down Panthers

The Chief Kanim Hawks wrestling squad defeated Issaquah recently 59-33. The varsity squad pinned their way to victory with pins from Dan Peterson, Darrel Kinsman, Andrew Sypher, Royce Clark, Frank Tassara, Chris Hindmarch, Vince Vasquez and Aaron Moetului.

Justin Bridges contributed to the team score with a technical fall victory. Ben Larson and Patrick Brown also scored points with decision wins over their opponents. It was evident through last week’s performance that the Hawks’ team has been working extremely hard in practice. They wrestled with solid technique and looked very strong physically.

The Hawks’ junior varsity team also wrestled well. Justin Williams, Stephen Hannan, Jarret Adams, Jeremy Serrick, Andy Kutner, Max O’Keefe and Greg Venditti all wrestled extremely well for the team. The JV match of the evening came from Justin Williams, who out-smarted his larger, stronger opponent with great technique. Williams will be a great leader for the varsity team in the future.

The sixth-grade team also won against Issaquah. In sixth-grade action, Aaron Peterson, Ross Tassara, Zach Frederick, John Farmer, Cody Furulie, Sherman Hutcherson and Zach Boynton led the way with victories for the Hawks. Jacob Miller, Kyle Williams, Bohn Wylett, Tony Selvage, and Connor Kraft also wrestled extremely well for the sixth-grade team.

Eagles bounce back

The Snoqualmie Middle School seventh-grade varsity girls’ basketball team literally “bounced” their way back from an early first-half setback whilevisiting Pine Lake and continued the momentum against rival Chief Kanim.

The Eagles came out cold against a fired-up plateau team to find themselves down at the half 18-5. The Lady Eagles had too much pride to let that continue and behind the defensive pressure of Jori Braun and Aubrey Larion, they hustled their way back into contention. Haley Chase and Rachel Finnegan posted up for a couple of inside baskets to help close the deficit. Hailey Eddings and Braun then connected on some clutch outside shots to enable the Eagles to close within three, just as time was running out, but eventually lost 35-30.

Against Chief Kanim, the Eagles continued with that second-half aggressive spirit as they bolted out to a 21-0 lead over the cold-shooting Hawks. Braun and Eddings dominated the middle, sweeping the glass and capping their opponent’s shots. Braun was on fire from inside and out, leading all scorers with 14. Finnegan was impressive inside with seven, Larion connected on 60-percent shooting for another six, while Alexis Pearlstein created havoc on defense with her ball-hawking pressure and also added to the score with two. Chase finished with four points, Eddings with two and Alli Holyoak with another two. It was a total team effort, as all players added points on the scoreboard to finish with the victory, 39-10.
