Rescuers save woman at Falls

Snoqualmie and Eastside firefighters lowered one of their own over the cliff face at Snoqualmie Falls last week to rescue a 52-year-old Seattle woman who climbed over the fence along the lookout and then fell some 20 feet.

The woman’s fall from the cliff face was reported to police and firefighters just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the scenic overlook. Firefighters set up two separate rope systems, then lowered Chris Nelms, a North Bend C-shift Eastside Fire and Rescue firefighter, down to the woman, who was precariously perched, hanging from a tree, about 20 feet below the edge. She was lifted to safety at about 4 p.m., then taken to Harborview Medical Center for an evaluation.

From her ledge, the woman urged firefighters to hurry.
