Wildcats down Interlake, fall to Red Wolves
In their opening game of league volleyball on Sept. 13, the Mount
Si Wildcats handily dumped Interlake by scores of 15-9, 7-15, 15-9 and 15-10.
The Saints finished last year as the runner up in both the conference
and district tournaments, losing only one KingCo 3A game the entire
season. Their skill and past achievements were to no avail, however, as the
strong Wildcat squad mowed them down.
Individual standout performances included Betsy Bankson with 5
aces, 9 kills and 5 digs; Heather Lewis, 3 aces, 13 kills and 8 digs;
Genevieve Weber, 6 aces, 4 kills and 6 digs; Kristen Everett, 3 aces, 22
assists; Sheniel Harstad, 2 aces and 6 digs; and Stephanie Sales, 2 aces and 3 kills.
“Mount Si played a smart game against Interlake,” said Mount
Si coach Sherrie Brown, a veteran of eight years with the Wildcat
program. “They kept the ball away from their talented seniors.”
Last Wednesday night the Lady Wildcats hosted their opposite
numbers from the Lower Valley, the Cedarcrest Red Wolves. Again,
there were some standouts, but this time the visitors prevailed by scores of
15-5, 15-5, 11-15 and 15-10.
On the winning side, Cedarcrest’s Erin Townsend notched 6 kills and
1 block. Also contributing were Julie Henry, 5 aces, 15 assists and 2
kills; and Katie Power, 4 kills and 4 digs.
Among the Wildcats, Sales recorded 3 kills and 6 digs; Weber
14 digs; Harstad, 4 digs; Everett, 17 assists; Lewis, 8 kills and 11 digs;
and Bankson, 6 kills and 9 digs.
Both teams played this past Tuesday night and again last night.
On Tuesday the Mount Si spikers visited Sammamish while Cedarcrest
hosted Interlake. The following evening the Wolves journeyed to Skyline
while Mount Si greeted Liberty. The next scheduled event is this
Saturday’s Cedarcrest Volleyball Tournament.
