The Mount Si Lions Club is hosting Fall City Day’s first car show this year with “Rollin’ on the Snoqualmie River.” The charity car and motorcycle show starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Fall City Elementary School parking lot.

Lions Club President Tom Smarsh said the idea of doing a car show was born from his experience as part of the Northwest Classic Chevy Club, which hosts car shows to raise money for scholarships.

“I said ‘let’s try a car show’, we make very good money at our Northwest Classic Chevy Club show and all of that goes for scholarships to various automotive schools and garages and so forth that provide scholarships for students who want to learn about auto mechanics,” Smarsh said, adding that all profit from the show goes to meet service goals in local communities.

“Not only do we do service projects but we do fundraisers as well, every penny we make goes back to the community. We take out nothing for administration or anything like that. If we make a dollar, it goes back in the community somewhere to help.”

Smarsh said the car show will be limited to 60 entries. As of June 3, there were 20 cars registered to appear, with more expected by the day of the show.

The car show will also have a raffle for prizes and attendees will be able to vote for their favorite cars for various awards.

“We’ve got lots of raffle items, people have given us various gifts to be raffled off and there will be a donation box there for people who want to donate,” Smarsh said. “One of the things about our show that’s a little bit different is we have a seven or eight trophies to give away, one of them is the People’s Choice Award. The people who come to the show pick up a ballot, look at the cars, and pick the car that they like the best.”

The Leo Club, the Lions Club’s program for youth who want to volunteer, will be helping run the car show as well as many other events at Fall City Days.

Smarsh looks forward to growing the car show and making it an annual part of Fall City Days as a way to generate funding for community service projects for the Lions Club. All of the money raised by the Lions Club goes to their service projects such as the Fall City Food Pantry, homeless teen youth care in Seattle and bringing food to the homeless community staying at Fall City’s United Methodist Church .

“This is just something we would like to raise money for and that’s all going to go back to the community,” he said. “Hopefully it will spark enough interest that we make some money and make it bigger next year.”
