On April 27, a suspected wolf was hit by a vehicle on Interstate-90 and killed. Wildlife officials could not confirm it was a wolf until DNA testing was done. Through the lengthy tests, the animal was identified as a western gray wolf, protected by the Endangered Species Act.

The National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Lab in Ashland, Oregon performed the physical and DNA analysis.

The physical test showed the wolf had previously been shot in the back leg.

Ann Froschauer, public affairs supervisor for the Washington Fish and Wildlife office, said that the investigation into this incident is now complete and the law enforcement’s involvement has ended.
