Wildcats win home soccer opener

The Mount Si Wildcat varsity soccer team hosted their cross-valley
rival Cedarcrest Red Wolves last Friday night in what was best described as
a fast-paced offensive game. In the first half, the ball moved up and down
the field many times with Kasey Robinson for Mount Si and the goalie
for Cedarcrest notching several saves each. But with less than a minute
left in the first period, the Red Wolves’ Tommy Felt blasted a goal,
unassisted, to give Cedarcrest a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half the wind appeared to wisp out of the Red
Wolves’ sails as the ball remained in the Red Wolves’ end most of the half.
Finally, Mount Si started putting some offense together midway through the
second period.
With 15:26 left on the clock for the game, Mount Si’s Roger
Paterson punched in a goal wide right for a score. The Wildcats maintained
their offensive pressure and with 13:16 left in the game, Jed McDaniels broke
free up the right side of the field. As the defenders neared, he passed the
ball to a waiting Seth Holub who maneuvered and took the shot for the
team’s second goal. The Red Wolves never recovered as the clock ticked away.
This week Mount Si takes on Liberty on Friday, at Liberty. Then
they’re off to Newport to take on the Knights next Tuesday.
