Aaron Svarthumle honored
Aaron Svarthumle, one of two seniors on the team, was the Pacific College Boxers’ anchor in the outfield as the starting center fielder. Svarthumle finished with a .322 average in 26 games, fifth best for the Boxers, including 29 hits, seven doubles, five home runs and six stolen bases. He finished with seven multi-hit games and led by a 3-for-5 effort against George Fox on April. 24.
“Aaron was selected in probably one of the deepest positions in our league this season,” head coach Greg Bradley said. “To be picked first or second team is a big honor. Aaron was our hardest worker all year long and it paid off for him.”
Hole-in-one
Myles Burke of Sammamish recently made a hole-in-one at Mount Si Golf Course. The shot was made on the fourth hole at a distance of 124 yards using a nine iron.
Haakenson scores at invitational
Dan Haakenson, a senior at Pacific Lutheran University and 2001 Mount Si graduate, placed fourth in the discus at the recent Ken Foreman invitational at the University of Washington. He threw 142 feet, five inches. Freshman Michael Johnson, of Snoqualmie placed eighth in the shot with a mark of 45 feet, seven inches.
Area youths win baseball honors
Results are in from the Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run competition held at Centennial Fields in Snoqualmie on Saturday, May 7.
In the 7/8 age group, Sam Miller was named Overall Champion; Alex Adams and Brady Thomas shared Pitch Champion honors; Sam Miller was Hit Champion and Brady Thomas was Run Champion.
In the 9/10 age group, Nick Mitchell was named Overall Champion; Jettson Davis was Pitch Champion; Nick Mitchell was Hit Champion; and Connor Jensen came away with the Run Champion title.
Trevor Taylor was Overall Champion in the 11/12 age group; C.J. Adkins and Trevor Taylor shared the Pitch Champion title; Hit Champion was Jack Kelly; and Caymon Granillo was Run Champion.
The winners then competed in the sectional competition held May 22 in Auburn. Sectional all-around champions become eligible to qualify for the team championship to be held at Safeco Field.
Local gymnasts compete at state
Several local gymnasts competed in state competition for their age group. In the 6 and 7-year-old group, Mikaelyn Davis took sixth place in all around with a score of 36.5. She also took third on the floor and sixth on the beam. Eight-year-old Eerin Antoch took 15th place in all around with a score of 35.725. In the 9-year-old group, Hannah Richmand took 15th place with an all-around score of place with an all-around score of 35.550, and Emily Woitcheck took 20th place with an all-around score of 35.325.
In the 10-year-old group, Nichole Trickey took third in all around with a score of 36.975. She placed first in the bars, second on the floor and fourth on the vault. Finally, 11-year-old Brooke Bonner took fourth place in all-around with a score of 36.57. She placed third on the floor and fifth on the bars. The Gymnastics East team took second in state with over 330 girls participating.
Wildcat girls basketball holding summer camp
The Mount Si Wildcats girls basketball program will be hosting basketball camps from June 27-30 at Snoqualmie Middle School for girls in third- through ninth-grades entering the 2005-06 school year. The camp for third- through sixth-graders will be held from 9-11:30 a.m., and the camp for seventh- through ninth-graders will be held from noon to 3 p.m.
The fee to enroll a child in the camp is $55, and the camp will focus on developing the skills of young players in order to prepare them for the rigors of high school girls basketball.
The camp instructors will be Mount Si head girls basketball coach Dirk Hansen, and other coaches and players associated with the Mount Si girls basketball program.

Sign up for summer softball
Those interested in the NSA North Bend/Snoqualmie Summer Softball Leagues can now register. The registration deadline is Friday, June 17. The cost is $590 for coed and $530 for mens/womens teams. The 2005 NSA registration fee is included in the league fee.
Games are held at Torguson Park in North Bend during the week in July and August. The coed teams will have a 12-game regular season plus playoffs with Monday or Tuesday doubleheaders. The mens and womens teams will have a ten-game regular season with playoffs and Wednesday or Thursday doubleheaders.
There will be championship shirts for the first-place teams in each division and trophies or plaques for the top two teams in each division.
