Last Thursday was a particularly busy day for the Mount Si

and Cedarcrest cross country teams. The Wildcat runners joined Bellevue

in making an away appearance at Skyline, while the Red Wolves and

Newport visited Liberty High School. Both events featured 3.1-mile courses.

Wildcats place behind Wolverines, Spartans

Boys – Bellevue 19, Skyline 55, Mount Si 62

The top runner for the Wildcats was Payton Thompson, who

placed sixth with a time of 17:39; he was followed by Mike McRae who came

in ninth with a time of 18:14. Bellevue dominated on the Skyline

course, placing four in the top five.

Girls – Skyline 24, Bellevue 33, Mount Si DNS

On the girls’ side of the house, the Wildcats unfortunately did not

qualify for points, failing to place five among the finishers. The only Mount Si

runner to place in the top ten was Katie Coats, who came across the line

at 23:26, good for eighth place. Bellevue’s Marie Foushee won

the event with a 22:11.

The Mount Si thinclads took a trip to Port Angeles for an

invitational meet this last Saturday. This

afternoon, Sept. 23, they’ll play gracious hosts for the cross country squads

from Interlake and Issaquah High Schools.

Red Wolves place second, third

Boys – Newport 24, Cedarcrest 43, Liberty 78

The Runnin’ Red Wolves’ James Conrick took the race with a time

of 17:19, followed by Danny Abel in fourth place at 18:10 and

Eric Pedefferi with an 18:24, good for seventh place. The Newport runners

took the other slots in the top ten, giving them the win.

Girls – Newport 15, Liberty 59, Cedarcrest 68

Cedarcrest failed to put a runner in the top ten in the women’s

event, which was won by Newport’s Jodee Adams-Moore with a time of

20:14. Kelly Ramirez was the Wolves’ first finisher, placing 14th with a time

of 23:44. Yingxuan Law came in next at 24:02.

“I thought it went pretty well, considering we’re kind of sick right

now,” said Cedarcrest coach Bruce McDowell. “We ran our boys’

team without our number three runner, and ran our girls’ team without one of

our top four runners.

“We’re just trying to get healthy now, but I’m pleased with how

they ran. For many of my team, this was their first three-mile race.”

Cedarcrest participated in the Port Angeles Invitational on Sept. 18.

Their next regular meet is this afternoon (Sept. 23) when they host Mercer

Island and Sammamish.
