New library nears opening

The Snoqualmie branch of the King County Library System will see some big changes this summer.

Opening day for the new Snoqualmie Ridge library has been set for Wednesday, Aug. 1. The downtown branch will be closing and the newer, bigger library on the northwest corner of Center Boulevard and Snoqualmie Parkway will open.

A ribbon cutting is tentatively planned for midday, with storytimes and other events to mark the celebration.

Roughly three times the size of the existing branch, the new 6,000-square-foot building will boast more room for books and computers. It will also have an automated materials-handling system to speed delivery and reduce theft.

“There’s no comparison,” said Snoqualmie senior managing librarian Michele Drovdahl. “It will have more of everything.”

“With all of the growth on Snoqualmie Ridge and throughout this community, it’s a huge need,” said Jennifer Spence, president of the Snoqualmie Library Advisory Board. “I think it’ll be a great resource.”

More programming and extended hours will help serve Snoqualmie patrons much better, according to Spence.
