Valley woman to celebrate her centennial

With her milestone birthday just a few days around the bend, Snoqualmie resident Miriam Schodde will celebrate with a centennial party that’s open to anybody in the community who’s connected with her over her hundred years of life.

Miriam’s celebration is 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Church of the Nazarene, 39051 S.E. Park St., Snoqualmie.

Miriam’s family doesn’t know exactly who to invite, so they’re welcoming everybody.

“I’m afraid we might have trouble putting 100 candles on my birthday cake,” Schodde said.

“I tried one year to put 75 on my mother’s birthday cake,” she added. “We had a hard time. I don’t think I could add enough tiers.”

Miriam and her husband Herman Schodde moved to Snoqualmie in 1938 and both went to work for the Puget Sound Power and Light Co., between them serving about 75 years.

“They’ve been a part of this Valley forever,” said Schodde’s oldest daughter, Louise Kelly. Her mother, she said, has been a wonderful family head to five generations – two daughters, five granddaughters, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild – with only two boys total included in the line up.
