Right on track

An orphaned opossum that tugged at the heartstrings of a Seattle couple led to a wildlife tracking fundraiser that will be held in North Bend Sunday, July 1.

Last year, Jim Boggs and his wife, Fiona Clark, were driving to an early morning class on tracking wildlife in Duvall when they spied a fatally wounded mother opossum on the roadway. Surrounding her were 13 baby opossums – most of them dead or dying. Only one ended up surviving.

“There was this one little guy walking around,” Boggs said. “He was a pretty feisty little chap.”

They took the orphaned critter to their class with the Wilderness Awareness School tracking club. Fellow members recommended they take the opossum to PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society), a nonprofit organization with a shelter and facility in Lynnwood.
