The big year: Cedarcrest wrestlers have eyes on important year, hosting regionals

Ask any of the 10 Cedarcrest senior wrestlers what they want this year, you’ll get one answer.
“This guy, right here,” says heavyweight Robby MacNair, pointing to the words “State Tournament @ Tacoma Dome” on the team’s schedule for the season. “This is our big year.”
Austin Koons, who plans to wrestle at 145 in the state tournament, adds “We want to send pretty much every weight class to state.”
Ranked third in the league this year, the Cedarcrest guys are naturally hoping to beat the top two-ranked, Archbishop Murphy in Everett, and Kings in Seattle. But then, “We always want to stick it to Archbishop Murphy,” says Martin Vakamoce, hoping for the 182-pound class.
Coach Eric Pedeferri shares the team’s goal of going to state, but he has set other milestones along the way, including shutting out a team at one meet this year, winning every weight class.
Also, he says, “in February, this is huge, we’re hosting the league tournament, and the regional tournament.”
