>’Mount Si High School’ Selected as Winning Name in Legion Contest

Monday evening, July 10, the directors of School District No. 410 accepted the name submitted by the winners of the American Legion contest as the official name of the high school of this district. The name, Mount Si High School, was submitted by Dick Bibby and Glenn Young of Cedar Falls, and Tom Elwick and Lorna Wallace of Snoqualmie. First place prize money was divided among these four winners.

Winners of prizes in local district contests in addition to the above named were: Edna Koch, Cedar Falls; Lee Wade, Wayne Halverson, Mary Opstad, June Martin, Fred Alma, Lucille Stem, Julie Moody, Fall City; Eleanor Prescott and Chris Wahl, Snoqualmie; Dick Kelley, Janet Peoples and Marjorie Croff, Snoqualmie Falls; and Margaret Benedict, Vera Bluher and Peggy Riley, North Bend.

The contest was open to all students within the jurisdiction of the newly-formed school district. Winners were selected first from each high school and grade school in the original districts by a committee appointed by the school’s faculty. These winners then competed for the grand prize of $25, offered by Renton Pickering post. Prizes of $3 in war stamps were awarded to the two winners in each of the participating school districts.
