NORTH BEND – After a three-month trial period the verdict is in on George Martinez: He’s a keeper.
Martinez officially removed the word interim from his job title last week when the City Council approved his hiring as city administrator.
“It feels good,” Martinez said of the appointment. “Now we can move forward.”
Martinez, North Bend’s former city clerk, was appointed interim city administrator in September replacing Phil Messina, who accepted a job in Central Point, Ore. The appointment came with the condition that after 90 days the Council would re-evaluate the issue to ensure that Martinez felt comfortable and was the right fit for the city. The Council confirmed its confidence in Martinez with unanimous approval at a Nov. 19 meeting.
