New director to head Si View

For newly hired Si View Metropolitan Park District Executive Director Travis Stombaugh, working in the Valley is a homecoming of sorts.
The soft-spoken snowboarder grew up in the Auburn area and spent many weekends on the slopes of the Summit at Snoqualmie, stopping frequently in North Bend.
“I knew the area, knew how pretty it is, my friends are out here and I didn’t want to settle in California,” Stombaugh said.
Most recently, Stombaugh was general manager of the Ambrose Recreation and Park District in Bay Point, Calif. He had been manager there for nearly three years and when he saw that Si View was hiring, the decision was a simple one, he said.
“It’s North Bend, man,” he exclaimed.
Stombaugh, 29, is a graduate of the University of Idaho. He has a bachelor of science degree in recreation and a master of science degree in parks and recreation. Initially, he considered being a teacher, but was convinced better career opportunities existed in the burgeoning field of community recreation.
