Boys headed to post season

The Mount Si Wildcats boys’ basketball team faced its most important test of the year last week. The back to back games against Newport last Tuesday and Liberty last Wednesday were going to determine how this season finished. The guys passed the test, and they are now off to the postseason.
The first leg was at home against the Knights last Tuesday, and once again, offensive balance was the key, along with some strong defensive play, as the Wildcats picked up a 76-71 victory over Newport.
“It was a great effort. We’re getting better. It’s kind of fun. We’re peaking at the right time, so it should be a fun next couple of weeks,” said Mount Si coach Jeff D’Ambrosio.
Tanner Riley led the way with 22 points, but as previously noted, the balance in the team offensive effort was shown very clearly in this one, as all except one player who played scored points in the contest. Jake Hamilton was one of those players who stepped up; he scored 10 points for the Wildcats. “It was a good effort. We knew we had to have a big game tonight, and get a “W” so we could go into Liberty with a little momentum going,” Hamilton said. Winson Sharps’ effort in the second half was also an important part of the victory; he finished with seven points.
