Over the 50-plus years that Mount Si and Tolt (now
Cedarcrest) have squared off for the Snoqualmie
Valley Championship, some great gridders have rallied their
prospective teams to victory:
1945 _ Fullback Bill Venn ran for an extra point and threw
his “special” pass to a streaking Clarence Alm in the end zone
as the Scarlet and Gray won the first match-up of the two football
teams. Mount Si 13 _ Tolt 0.
1946 _ Backfielder Dick Mayrand lobbed a 17-yard
touchdown pass to Bill Poch and a 5-yard TD strike to reserve end John
Lund. Mount Si 21- Tolt 0.
1949 _ Pete Lenes scored on a 65-yard touchdown pass and
later rushed four yards for his second score of the game. Mount Si 44
Tolt 0.
1950 _ Fullback Paul Holm, a second-stringer filling in for
John Bluher (who broke his leg in a game against Bellevue), ran for
two touchdowns. Mount Si 32 _ Tolt 6.
1951 _ Don Trombley scored three touchdowns and ran for a
conversion to lead the Wildcats’ rout of their Valley Rivals. Mount Si
49 _ Tolt 0.
1952 _ Waldo Hawk had a 23-yard touchdown run and a
25-yard dash into the end zone for Mount Si. Mount Si 34 _ Tolt 6.
1973 _ Steve Duthbert returned a kickoff 65 yards for a
touchdown against the Demons. Mount Si 27 _ Tolt 8.
1974 _ Running back Mike Neal rushed for a touchdown and
the two-point conversion to give the Scarlet and Gray a 6-0 lead. Mount Si
20 _ Tolt 0.
1975 _ Running back Bob Forslin had two touchdowns
and broke an 18-all tie with a successful two-point conversion run. Mount
Si 20, Tolt 18.
1976 _ Bob Wilson fell on a fumble to tie the game at 6 _ 6
against Tolt. He nailed the extra-point kick to put Mount Si ahead for good.
Wilson finished with two touchdowns in the contest. Mount Si 38 _ Tolt 19.
1977 _ Quarterback Bob Treado went 6-for-13 passing and logged
110 yards of air offense and two touchdowns. The game’s final score
came when Greg Hart (current athletic director at Mount Si High) hauled in
a pass from his younger brother, Scott, a freshman quarterback for the
`Cats. Mount Si 52 _ Tolt 8.
1997 _ Cedarcrest quarterback Brent Robertson went
10-for-21 passing and racked up 149 yards in the air _ and three touchdowns _
as the Lower Valley high school finally conquered their upriver
colleagues. Cedarcrest 31 _ Mount Si 19.
1998 _ Mount Si quarterback Chris Riley threw for two
touchdowns and notched one himself on the keeper as the Wildcats
reclaimed the Championship trophy 28-0. The Wildcats would continue their
winning streak, eventually taking the KingCo Championship and
heading to the playoffs.
