Wildcats nab postseason honors

Mount Si athletes in softball and soccer received good news last week when they were honored with postseason awards for their respective sports in the Kingco Conference.

In what coach Larry White deemed “the biggest upset of the year,” six varsity Wildcat girls’ fastpitch softball players took home postseason honors, despite Mount Si finishing out of the playoffs this year.

Leading the list are junior outfielder Tabitha Albertson, junior designated hitter Alison Moorehead and senior utility player Lauren Davis, who all received first-team honors, while freshman second baseman Kayla Jayne, freshman shortstop Amy Trenkamp and junior first baseman Rachel McNaul all received honorable mention.

In addition, on Friday the team won the All-KingCo Sportmanship award for best sportsmanship on the field. With all of the winners except Davis returning next year, this team clearly has talent and could likely be one of the conference’s best in 2003.

In varsity boys’ soccer, senior midfielder/forward Drew Arenth was named by his peers to the KingCo Conference first team, while midfielder Pete Talevich and defender Jeremy Winter were awarded honorable mention. Additional awards will be handed out at an awards banquet, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 16.
