Zydeco music to inavde North Bend

NORTH BEND – When Sara Barry of North Bend heard Zydeco music for the first time, she just had to dance.
“The rhythm is just infectious,” Barry said. “You have to dance to it.”
Sean Donovan of Seattle had a similar reaction. He was at a small club in Florida when he heard Zydeco music that practically lifted him out of his chair.
“My feet and legs just started moving,” Donovan said. “I finally had to get up just because I couldn’t sit still.”
The two have joined together to bring the Romp in the Swamp Zydeco Music and Dance Festival to North Bend this weekend. The two-day event will feature dancing, authentic Cajun cuisine and, of course, a lot of Zydeco.
Zydeco, a rousing spawn of Cajun music that had its berth in the Creole communities of Louisiana, has slowly made its way out of the South to the Pacific Northwest. The Romp in the Swamp this weekend is actually promoted as being the second such festival. Donovan helped organize the first one, which was held last year on Vashon Island, and it went so well that he and fellow Zydeco fans hope to make the festival a regular occurrence in the region.
