SNOQUALMIE – Songs and instrumental music from Scotland and Ireland are featured by the trio of artists who are Golden Bough. Presented by Snoqualmie Valley Arts Live, they will perform on Sunday, March 28, in the Mount Si High School Theater (disabled accessible), 8651 Meadowbrook Way S.E. in Snoqualmie. Curtain time is 4 p.m.
The voices of Marge Butler, Paul Espinoza (the two founders of Golden Bough in 1980) and Kathy Sierra are a lovely, harmonic blend as they perform their unique fusion of traditional Celtic and original music. They play a wide variety of common and more unusual acoustic instruments including the Celtic harp, guitar, penny-whistle, recorder, violin, viola, octave-mandolin, accordion and bodhran (a hand-held drum unique to the Celtic culture).
Their program will include musical fare ranging from haunting ballads, mythical tales and beautiful airs, to lively sing-alongs and toe-tapping jigs and reels.
Touring for more than 20 years, Golden Bough has earned critical acclaim and a loyal following throughout the Western United States, in Europe and Japan for their interpretation of the music of the Celtic lands – Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, The Isle of Man, French Brittany and Galicia. Venues where they regularly appear include The Belfast International Festival and the Edinburgh Frynge Festival.
Golden Bough CDs are distributed worldwide, including a fan favorite “Song of the Celts.” This is a typical Golden Bough combination of Celtic traditional music with contemporary arrangements and vocal harmonies, the delightful sounds you will hear at the March 28 concert.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for youth. They are available at Natures Market Place in North Bend; Isadora’s, in Snoqualmie; and Video Nites in Fall City, or at the door. Plan to enjoy complementary cookies, coffee and juice at intermission. Parking is free.
