NORTH BEND – King County has issued Cadman Inc. a grading permit to begin work on the mining of Grouse Ridge.
The permit, issued by the Department of Developmental and Environmental Services on Monday, March 10, paves the way for the international mining company to begin the 25-year project located on Weyerhaeuser Co. land between Interstate 90 exits 34 and 38.
“We’ve been involved with this for almost 5 years,” said Robin Hansen, manager of environmental affairs for Cadman. “We’re really anxious to get our workers out there and supply our customers with some gravel.”
The Cadman project will find the company processing gravel mined at Grouse Ridge at a plant on the Valley floor near Ken’s Truck Town. That gravel would arrive from the Grouse Ridge mining site via a mile-long conveyor belt. Cadman will also remove sand and gravel from the lower site.
