Hawks’ cross country ends season

The Chief Kanim cross country team concluded their season at the Foothills District Finals held at Sammamish State Park on Oct. 28. The sixth-grade girls placed third and both the boys’ teams came in sixth. Every member of the team has improved, earning times substantially faster then what he or she ran six weeks before. At the finals, 22 Chief Kanim athletes set new personal records.

In the sixth-grade boys’ race, Jordan Helton was the first Hawk runner to cross the finish line, closely followed by Max Okeefe, Jordan Williamson and Trevor Carter. Next to finish were Stephen Hannan, Tim McLaughlin, Isaac Ackerman and Tyler Powers.

In the sixth-grade girls’ race, Kaylee Galloway blazed a path to the finish line with Jordan Schultz, Amanda Gates, Nicole Myers and Ellie Kuhn following.

Matt Laird ran his best race of the year leading the seventh- and eighth-grade boys to the finish line with Ben Larson just 10 seconds behind. The next Chief Kanim runners to cross were Zach Midgarder, Lee Amador, Obie Rivitt, AJ Leland and Kinley Dunckle. Drew Phillups, Spencer Larsen, Derek Harris, Andrew Sypher and Blake Parker followed them and coming in next were Anthony Stainke and Austin Parker.

Marley Robbins was the only athlete to place in the top 10 of their race by coming in seventh. Taylor Robbins was close behind with Jesse Latourette just behind her.

Although this was only Chief Kanim’s second year of cross country, the team’s numbers have been progressively growing, and the hope is they will grow even more.

The coaches felt it was a very successful year. Every athlete who ran in the first meet, finished the season. Some ran with pain, but all ran with great attitudes. At the start of the season, some kids could barely conceive of running a mile, and in the end they all finished strong, running like the athletes they had become.

Tough defense in SMS-Buckley game

The Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles defeated Glacier of Buckley 13-6 last week in football action. Glacier scored first on a long run from scrimmage and led 6-0 at the half. Snoqualmie came back in the second half with scores by Code Blair and Chaz Blair. Jordin Kinnune added the extra point on a quarterback sneak. Tough defense by the Eagles and a controlled offense produced a great win.

Outstanding players in the game included Code Blair, Chaz Blair, Jordin Kinnune, Kasey Bailey and Cody Lane.
