Post season success

SNOQUALMIE VALLEY – The Snoqualmie Valley Little League 11-year-old All-Star team made a little history for the league recently as the team finished in fifth place at the state tournament in Vancouver. Although the amazing run is over thanks to two consecutive losses, the memories of making it the farthest of any of the league’s 11-year-old all-star squads will remain for years.

The team went 11-3 in the postseason, and according to their manager Greg Taylor, were the class of District 9 – held at Big Fin Hill Park in Kirkland – which covers Little League for much of the Eastside.

“They pretty much dominated the district tournament,” said Taylor, a veteran Little League coach in the Valley. “[The team was] the best team in the state tournament.”

Team unity was key to success.

“It was an absolute team effort,” the manager said, adding that different players stepped up each game and delivered, which was important considering that Little League has a mandatory play rule that requires all players to get at least one at-bat and be in the field for a minimum of three consecutive defensive outs.

According to assistant coach Doug Brashears, the parents were also key.

“Thanks and congratulations to all the parents that supported the kids,” said Brashears.

Taylor has been involved in the local Little League program for the last five years, since he moved to the Valley from Pierce County. This season Taylor managed the Majors (10-12 years old) Angels team. Along with Brashears, Jeff Mitchell also assisted Taylor on the team.
