SEATTLE – The historic Kalakala ferry boat has been put on the market following an unsuccessful campaign to get it restored.
The Kalakala Foundation, led by Snoqualmie resident Art Skolnik, voted to put the boat up for sale last week after it failed to find a future location to moor the Kalakala and gather enough money to restore it.
The minimum bid for the ferry has been set at $1.6 million to pay back the foundation’s creditors. The deadline for bids has been set for 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21.
Artifacts from the boat the foundation procured over the years, however, will stay with the foundation in hopes of setting up a Kalakala exhibit at Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry.
