Life of a Legionnaire

Published 9:44 am Thursday, October 2, 2008

There aren’t many Legionnaires who clock 60 years of continuous involvement in the American Legion.

That’s why members of the Legion in Snoqualmie and North Bend quietly put together a surprise announcement of longtime Snoqualmie resident Bob Hamerly’s achievement.

Inviting both the Snoqualmie and North Bend mayors to celebrate, the Renton Pickering Legion Post No. 79 honored Hamerly Thursday, March 8.

“We wanted to make it a big deal,” post commander Steve Fenton said. “This is huge. Can you imagine being in anything for 60 years?”

Hamerly, he said, is always helpful and ready to be involved, carrying flags at elementary schools and coming to every meeting.

“Bob’s always front and center,” Fenton said.
