Don’t know much about how your tax dollar is spent? Or about how city government works? Or how the city grows and how all the municipal nitty-gritty necessities – roads, parks and water pipes – are taken care of?

Finally, you have a chance to find out.

The city of Snoqualmie is holding its first-ever citizen academy, designed to bring the average resident up to speed on the inner workings of their home town.

“It provides our residents and business owners with an opportunity to know how their government works, who we are, why we do things the way we do,” said Snoqualmie City Clerk Jodi Warren.

A citizen academy is something the city’s wanted to do for years, Warren said. The need for some back-to-basics citizen education was driven home in last winter’s citizen survey, in which citizens questioned why the city wasn’t tackling issues like schools, business and neighborhood relations that, in truth, are outside the bounds of municipal government.
