Abduction attempt not real

What Snoqualmie police initially thought might have been an attempted abduction wasn’t looking quite as scary as police honed in on what really happened.

“The feeling I got is it got blown out of proportion,” said Officer Nigel Draveling, the officer investigating the incident.

The story police first heard was that minutes after leaving Cascade View Elementary School on Snoqualmie Ridge Dec. 7, two 8-year-old boys were approached by an adult man who offered them $100 if they came to where he was standing, according to the Snoqualmie Police Department. The incident happened at the corner of Kinsey Street and Baker Avenue, one block from the school, at about 3 p.m.

The boys told the man “no” and fled, said Becky Munson, police spokesperson. The boys safely made it to one of their homes and the mother of one boy brought her son to the police station. Although abductions by a stranger are rare – most abductions are by a parent or family member – “it does happen,” Munson said.

“We didn’t want to downplay it,” Draveling said.
