Baseball team dumps Islanders
The Mount Si “C” baseball team handed the Mercer Island Islanders a 7-4 loss recently.
Adam Dentz was the starting pitcher for the ‘Cats, going three innings and only giving up two hits and one run. He also struck out six batters. Bryce Barber pitched the last two innings and gave up three runs on two hits and struck out one.
Offensively, Chris Brown had two hits and an RBI. Teammate Blaine Sutton had two hits and Craig Weber added four hits and one RBI.
‘C’ team downs Patriots
Chris Brown led the defensive effort recently for the Mount Si “C” baseball team as it defeated the Liberty Patriots 7-5.
Brown pitched three innings, giving up two hits, one run and striking out six. Kenny Casem pitched two innings, gave up no runs and struck out three for the win. He also contributed two hits offensively.
Adam Dentz pitched one inning, gave up no runs or hits and struck out two for the save. He also contributed two hits and scored three RBIs. Craig Weber added three hits.
‘C’ team falls
to Bellevue
Mount Si’s “C” baseball team dropped a game to Bellevue recently 8-0.
Chris Brown pitched five innings and struck out four. He also hit a double. Beau Stanford pitched two innings and had a strikeout. Zach Bowen and Adam Dentz both had hits for the ‘Cats.
Mount Si downs Sammamish
Adam Dentz went four innings, only giving up two hits and one run to lead the Wildcats “C” baseball team to a 6-4 victory over Sammamish.
Dentz also struck out nine batters and hit a double and a single. Chris Brown had a double and single, as did Craig Weber. Weber came on in relief in the fifth and pitched two innings, striking out all six batters. Blaine Sutton had two hits and Beau Stanford added two RBIs.
‘C’ soccer match ends in tie
Playing Bellevue last week, the Mount Si boys’ “C” soccer team fought hard but ended its game with the Wolverines in a tie.
Jeff Lewis and Rick Coulter shared duties in the goal, with both holding Bellevue scoreless. The Wildcat’s defense controlled Bellevue’s offense the entire game. Rob Jepson showed his continuing improvement on defense, with Colin Parsons, Manch Garhart and Owen Kirschner rounding out the defensive duties.
Pole vaulters do well at event
Due to Bellevue High School’s lack of pole vaulters and facilities to jump, the Mount Si boys’ pole vaulters held their own competition last week. Two Wildcat vaulters scored varsity points toward the regular meet at Bellevue High School. Steven Johnson cleared 9 feet, 6 inches for second place, and Jacob Limestall cleared 11 feet for first.
JV tennis team defeats Patriots
The Wildcat junior-varsity girls’ tennis team defeated Liberty last week in an impressive outing 12-2.
Singles winners were Neyssa Miller, 8-6; Erin Hart, 8-1; Tennyson Salopek, 8-2; Amy Fenton, 8-1; Laruissa Everett, 8-1; and Audrey Christensen, 8-4.
Doubles winners were the teams of Cassy Gorton and Krista Fink, 9-8; Casey Bender and Meghann Manson, 8-5; Kim Sisk and Rebecca Coffey, 8-3; Nena Gonzales and Kailene Curnow, 8-4; Dulcinea McHugh and Karie Downing, 8-2; and Lindsay Logic and Tennyson Salopek, 8-0.
JV defeats
Liberty squad
With Alex Van Overen on the mound, the Mount Si Wildcat boy’s junior-varsity baseball team defeated the Liberty Patriots 10-8.
Van Overen pitched 5 1/2 innings, striking out six and allowing just four hits. Mike Lindor came in to pitch in relief and recorded four strikeouts.
Offensively, Matt Secord went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in, stroking two doubles. Jay Lewis went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Newport downs ‘Cats in tennis
The Mount Si girls’ junior-varsity tennis team was defeated by the league-leading Newport Knights last week 7-4.
Winning their single matches were Jessie Lentgis, 8-3, and Erin Hart, 8-4. Doubles winners were the team of Karie Downing and Amy Fenton, 8-1, and the team of Nena Gonzales and Kailene Curnow, 8-6.
Late goal gives ‘Cats the win
Two very evenly matched teams took the field last week in boys’ junior-varsity soccer action, but in the end Mount Si defeated the Sammamish Totems 1-0.
Fifty-five minutes into the game, Kyle Doty had a throw-in and striker Nick Swanson was there to blast it into the net. Jonathon Neilson is credited with the shutout for Mount Si.
Golfers drive their way to win
The Mount Si girls’ varsity golf team outdrove Issaquah last week to secure a 293-303 win. Pacing the ‘Cats again was Jess Sanford, who was the medalist with a 54. Stacy Shultz shot a 55, Kristina Whims a 61, Kristina Weder a 61, Rachel Keinath a 62, Jessica Whims a 62 and Heather Waggoner a 64.
Indians defeat ‘Cats in tennis
Despite Erin Hart’s impressive 9-7 winning singles match, the Mount Si Wildcats girls’ junior-varsity tennis team lost its match with Issaquah 6-5.
Mount Si was impressive in doubles play, with several teams winning. Neyssa Miller and Amy Fenton won 8-4; the team of Audrey Christensen and Casey Bender won 8-6; Nena Gonzales and Kailene Curnow won 9-8; and the team of Lindsay Loeffler and Meghann Manson won 9-8.
‘Cats lose to Liberty
The Wildcats could not pull off a trifecta last week as it lost to Liberty 6-1.
Liberty scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning against Wildcat starting pitcher Taylor McLellan, then scored three more in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.
McLellan, despite all of that, only gave up four hits, and only one of the runs was earned. The Wildcats spoiled the Patriots’ shutout bid in the seventh when Jeremy Bess scored on a single by Garret Parsons.
“This was a tough loss,” said coach Gary McGregor. “McLellan pitched a great game; this was his first extended duty on the mound and he handled himself well. [Jordan] Lettau came in and did a nice job, also. This was Jordan’s first varsity game on the mound, and for a sophomore, I thought he did real well.”
Lettau pitched 1 1/3 innings without giving up a run, let alone a hit. He struck out one.
‘Cats blast Islanders
The Wildcats returned home on Friday, and under threatening skies defeated Mercer Island 8-4.
Scott Johnson and Brandon Sales were the stories for this game. Johnson, pitching in relief of Alex Smart, shut down the Islanders, and offensively got a couple of key hits. Sales, the freshman catcher, hit a home run to help the Wildcats win their third game out of four last week.
