SNOQUALMIE – Debate over what the most significant event of the past 100 years in Snoqualmie could be a long celebrated discussion about railroads, hop farms and the timber industry.
All of these events will be explored this year when the city of Snoqualmie celebrates the centennial of its incorporation.
“I’m really excited about what is going on in Snoqualmie now,” said Jolene Kelly, owner of the Bella Vita Salon and Spa in Snoqualmie and chair of the Centennial Committee that is arranging this year’s festivities. “It’s a good time to be here.”
Although the town was founded in 1889, it did not become a municipality until May 1903. Since then, industries and neighbors have come and gone in the community, but it still remains a small, mountain town far removed from the urban core of Seattle; at least for the time being.
“It’s a pleasure being in this small town that people like to come out to,” said Salish Lodge and Spa Regional Sales Manager and Centennial Committee member Connie Schuerer. “I know people out here don’t want it to grow too much.”
To celebrate the year, city and area businesses will be hosting events to commemorate the first 100 years of Snoqualmie’s history.
