A hand up for homeless

SNOQUALMIE VALLEY – For a few hours on the second and fourth Monday of every month, they have a place to call home.
They gather at the North Bend Depot in the early evening. At a picnic table outside, they eat hamburgers and share their stories. Sometimes they walk away with clothes, and sometimes they walk away with just a scrap of paper, a phone number scrawled on it of someone who can help.
They’ve been coming since May, when Friends of Youth’s Eastside Outreach Program began helping homeless teens and young adults in the Snoqualmie Valley.
At one time, the outreach effort had been discontinued. But the need was still there, said Jaida Mangold, a case manager with the Eastside Outreach Program.
