Eagles sweep Tolt in double header
The Snoqualmie Middle School boys seventh-grade basketball team completed a season sweep of the Tolt Thunderbirds with a double-header win for the Eagles on March 24.
The first win was marked by machine-like precision on offense. Edwin Benson led all scorers with eight points, followed by Sam Evans and Garret Rohan with six each. The final score was 33-18.
The second game was marked by great team defense and an offensive show by Kyle Braun, who led all scorers with 12 points. The smothering defense held Tolt to only seven points. The final score was 24-7.
Coach Evan Hillburn said, “This is a fun group to coach. We have had a great season.”
The Eagles will finish their season with two games against Chief Kanim Middle School this week.
SMS JV boys win nail biter
The Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles JV boys eighth-grade basketball team survived a late run by Chief Kanim Middle School to win a nail biter 27-26 at Chief Kanim last week.
Tim Dotson hit one of his two free throws with six seconds remaining to provide the winning point. The Eagles were led on offense by Stephen Salmon, who had 16 points. The Eagles are now 3-0 on the season.
Four straight for SMS JV team
The JV boys eighth-grade basketball team from Snoqualmie Middle School posted their fourth straight victory, this one against Tolt with a final score of 29-27.
The Eagles had a strong defense but a lackluster offensive showing kept the game close. Coach Kiser was pleased with the defense but was concerned with the lack of movement on offense. He did praise the efforts of Kyle Bryson, who had a season-high 10 points. Stephen Salmon was the leading scorer of the game with 13 points.
The Eagles finish up next week with two games against Chief Kanim.
Hawks defeat Tolt
The Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade boys varsity basketball team defeated Tolt 64-46 last week. The Hawks used their fast break and dominated the boards in their effort to defeat Tolt. Alex Hiebert led with 14 points and eight rebounds. Tyson Riley added 12 points and seven assists, Joey Evans had 10 points, Chad Billings had nine points, Spencer MacEwan had four points, Zach Brevick had four points, Zach Lindor notched two points, Josh Snow had four points and Brian Johnson had one point. The Hawks are now 6-1.
Riley leads Hawks to victory
Tanner Riley, with 20 points, led the Chief Kanim seventh-grade boys varsity basketball team to victory with a 45-19 score over Tolt last week. The Hawks started off strong and never quit. Chief Kanim controlled the boards and used their fast break to get their fifth win of the season.
In addition to Riley, Lucas Zupan added seven points and 13 rebounds, Aaron Moetului had six points and four rebounds, Josh Murphy had two steals, Eric Murphy had two steals, Drew Handy had six points, Rosco Castagno had five rebounds and two assists, Gehrig Uhles had four points and four rebounds, Edgar Tarp had two points and four rebounds and Brian Guse added two rebounds.
Hawks drop Tolt
The Chief Kanim Middle School boys eighth-grade JV team defeated Tolt last week, 45-29. Scoring leaders for the Hawks were Tucker Edwards King with 16 points, Scotty Paophavihanh with 12 points and Zach Guyer with eight points. Jesus Diaz, Matt Fisher, Mark Kinsman, Kinley Dunkel and Tanner Bartlett finished with two points each.
Red team defeats Tolt
Last week the Chief Kanim Middle School seventh-grade boys JV “Red” team took on Tolt Middle School and came away with a 30-12 victory. The team was lead by Keith Barnum with 10 points, and six points each by Taylor Fish and Frank Tassara. The Hawks played aggressive defense and shot the ball much better than in past games.
Battle of the Birds scheduled
The annual Battle of the Birds between the Chief Kanim Hawks and the Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles will be held Thursday, March 31, at Mount Si High School. Tip-off time for the seventh-grade varsity will be at 6 p.m. Following that game will be the eighth-grade varsity teams at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Admission for this event will be $2 for adults and high- school students, $1 for elementary- and middle-school students. The event is free to middle-school students with an ASB Card and children under six accompanied by a parent. Concessions will be available as well.
Hawks drop game to Maywood
The Chief Kanim Middle School seventh-grade boys varsity basketball team lost a tough game last week to Maywood, 35-42. The Hawks played a great second half of basketball but just couldn’t recover from the first half. Lucas Zupan led the effort with 23 points and 28 rebounds. Aaron Moetului had eight points and nine rebounds. Josh Murphy contributed two points, Drew Handy had two rebounds, Brian Guse had a steal, Tanner Riley had an assist, Gehrig Uhles had two rebounds, Edgar Tarp had two rebounds and Rosco Castagno had two points.
Eighth-grade defeats Maywood
Behind the effort of Joey Evans with 17 points and four steals, the Chief Kanim eighth-grade boys varsity basketball team defeated Maywood last week, 64-46. Tyson Riley added eight points and five assists, Chad Billings had seven points and six assists, Spencer MacEwan had six points, Zach Brevick had four points, Alex Hiebert had 12 points, Zach Lindor had two steals, Brian Johnson had four points, Josh Snow had six points and Zach Kirchmeyer had four assists.
Eagles notch win
The Tolt Thunderbirds visited the Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles’ nest in a matchup between seventh-grade hoop teams. The Eagles took flight early in the contest on baskets by Chaz Blair and Jordin Kinnune. Dillon Shaine scored six of his eight points in the first quarter as the Eagles built a 12-point lead.
Snoqualmie continued to widen their lead in the second quarter behind strong defense from Brett Duncan, Justin Downer and Code Blair, while offensively Zac Pearlstein and Trey Botten both stretched the nylon to provide the Eagles with a 15-point halftime lead. In the second half, Zander Nelson scored eight of his game-high 20 points, and the strong rebounding of Pearlstein allowed the Eagles to cruise to a 44-20 victory.
